Writing Prompts – Creative Copy Challenge #454

This is a writing prompt. Bet you can’t do it! Take the 10 random words below and crush writer’s block by creating a cohesive, creative short story! And remember: after (if) you finish entering your submission into the comment field, highlight your words and click the bold button to make them stand out and help you determine if you forgot any words. (If you’ve missed previous writing prompts, we BET YOU CAN’T do those, either.) NOTE: Our bolding plugin is gone, so you’ll have to put before and after each of your challenge words if you want them to stand out, but NOT REQUIRED THOUGH! Or, as cleverly done by a CCC-er you can CAPITALIZE the challenge words in your piece.

1. Meg says:

In the broken debris of today
I wonder where the golf carts of September
With the stories come the legends the myths
The dedication and the shock

I wonder where the golf carts
That went from course to the pentagon to history
The dedication and the shock
Is buried by the injurious election

From course to pentagon to history
We hijack our past
Buried by the injurious election
Cell phones are used for sending grinning cats

We hijack our paths
By “feel good” sculptures
Cell phones are used for sending grinning cats
And the ash of bitterness covers all

Feel good sculptures
Broken debris of today
Ash of bitterness covers all
With the stories come the legends the myths

2. Anklebuster says:

Freddy was determined to hijack the forum thread. His rabid patriotism blinded him to the possibilities offered in the stories upon which the conversations fed. He used injurious attributions, shoveled repeatedly and often into a plastic bucket of inaccuracies to build each digital sand sculpture.

The subject, apparently, was the litigation arising from an unfortunate series of cell phone explosions. With all the dedication of a zealous Marine, Freddy twisted the narrative to hint at the culpability of the Pentagon and the military-industrial complex.

Before the ash from Freddy’s cigarette had hit the keyboard, the CIA hacked into his wide open Windows 10 account and reduced his hard drive to binary beach debris.

3. Little Miss Muffet…The Story Continues
Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet,
Eating her curds and whey.
Along came a spider,
Who sat down beside her,
And frightened Miss Muffet away.

The spider sat smug on the tuffet of Muffet
Munching on his hijacked curds
The fact that she ran from so little a span
Was something to him quite absurd
The stories were true! Everyone scurried and flew
Away from such a small creature
Like ash to the wind, they didn’t contend
With his small yet frightening features.

He frightened the bees, high up in the trees
As they sat in their pentagon cells .
And Little Boy Blue nearly choked on his horn
And ran did the Farmer in the Dell

His reigning terror and injurious pranks
Like his fleeing victims would flee
A plan was sculpted by Little Miss Muffet
To wipe him away like debris .
A dedication of patriotism displayed
By the victims he’d mocked and played
Miss Muffet returned but in her hand
Was shiny new black can of Raid!

4. Hello my CCC buds!!! So sorry it’s been soooo long. I have missed you. This has been a rough year for productivity as Mom’s health took a hit. I am happy to say after two ER visits + 2 hospitalizations + a new pacemaker, she is doing better.

Let me stretch these rusted CCC writing chops and see what I can do with this challenge.

P.S. You’d never believe I NEVER do politics with this one. 😉

Did we hijack human decency in the name of patriotism? Have we constructed a Pentagon of defenses that locks liberty in a cell of our own making?

How far will media go for the stories they fabricate, as truth becomes the ash in our urns? As individuals, we are frightened. Believing there is little we can do to erase the horror of modern times. But, our lack of dedication to the freedoms we have may be more injurious than the individuals causing the chaos.

Do we allow Lady Liberty to crumble into a forgotten sculpture in the debris of all we abhor?

5. Chet says:

We decided to hijack the cell culture as an act of dedication to our anarchist ideals.

We’d grown up listening to the stories of the heroic patriotism of our fathers and mothers, our grandparents, and great-grandparents before them. Ancestors who pledged their lives not to a piece of cloth or a tacky anthem or an arbitrary line drawn round some acreage of land but rather to ideals of equality and beauty. Generation and generation who’d taken the debris produced by the injurious actions of a corrupt civilization and molded it into sculpture that took one’s breath.

Though had we done a little research, we’d have learned why the Pentagon kept those little yellow petri dishes in deep vaults on that island. And we would have looked further for some less virulent target for our social action. By the time we recognized the error in our dialectic though it was too late to take back. We had unleashed a force that was reducing our society to ash. There’d be no stories of our heroism to tell. Nor anyone to tell them.
