Writing Prompts – Creative Copy Challenge #468

This is a writing prompt. Bet you can’t do it! Take the 10 random words below and crush writer’s block by creating a cohesive, creative short story! And remember: after (if) you finish entering your submission into the comment field, highlight your words and click the bold button to make them stand out and help you determine if you forgot any words. (If you’ve missed previous writing prompts, we BET YOU CAN’T do those, either.) NOTE: Our bolding plugin is gone, so you’ll have to put before and after each of your challenge words if you want them to stand out, but NOT REQUIRED THOUGH! Or, as cleverly done by a CCC-er you can CAPITALIZE the challenge words in your piece.

  1. Auld Lang Syne
  2. Father Time
  3. Merrymaking
  4. Tradition
  5. out with the old
  6. Invitation
  7. Extravaganza
  8. Countdown
  9. Confetti
  10. Bubbly

  1. Anklebuster says:

No sooner had the countdown ended and the traditional strains of Auld Lang Syne wafted away on the wintry breeze than Armageddon revealed itself. Mixed with the bubbly and confetti, the airborne Merrymaking virus was released.

The only survivors were those who had not received an invitation to the extravaganza at Times Square. They awoke to a quiet Sunday, thinking only of their resolutions: “Out with the old! In with the new!”

Father Time had a different plan for them …

  2. Tanja Cilia says:

In with the new and out with the old – that’s what the invitation to the house Father Time always said, year after year. He had a way with words, he did. “An extravaganza of merrymaking! Come and re-live the tradition of drinking bubbly and singing Auld Lang Syne at the countdown to the New Year…” and more words to that effect. Frankly, I found the whole thing repetitive, supercilious, and boring.
