Writing Prompt – Creative Copy Challenge #493

This is a writing prompt. Bet you can’t do it! Take the 10 random words below and crush writer’s block by creating a cohesive, creative short story! And remember: after (if) you finish entering your submission into the comment field, highlight your words and click the bold button to make them stand out and help you determine if you forgot any words. (If you’ve missed previous writing prompts, we BET YOU CAN’T do those, either.) NOTE: Our bolding plugin is gone, so you’ll have to put before and after each of your challenge words if you want them to stand out, but NOT REQUIRED THOUGH! Or, as cleverly done by a CCC-er you can CAPITALIZE the challenge words in your piece.

I am beginning to invite others to be the author of a week’s list of words, that means you too! All you have to do is email me at TheHandMaiden_Kathleen@hotmail.com

Before we get started I want to thank Aruna Antonella for the word list this week! – Now Write On.

  1. Anklebuster says:

Humans recently discovered an alien race of sentient asparagus living on the dark side of the moon. Despite the implicit whimsy of this scintillating scientific event, Dr. Rupert Jones–Spaceman Second Class–tried to draw attention to the species’ bellicosity. Alas, his warnings wafted away on the hot air of talking heads, midnight comedians and ambitious politicians seeking to capitalize on a frenzy of First Contact opportunities.

Like the moving shadow of a sundial, public opinion slowly shifted from warm and fuzzy curiosity to horrific realization that the little green stalks were bent on destroying homo sapiens. The change began as little more than a slightly indigestive burp: random, unconnected events that–only later–clearly pointed to alien interference in human lives.

Fact: taxi service industry disrupted by Uber and Lyft.

Fact: locomotive derailments up 24%, despite increased safety measures and drug-testing.

Fact: prison systems began to choke on an unprecedented influx of criminal and law enforcement inhabitants.

By the time the shadow had completed its sweep, the aliens had infiltrated the Earth’s infrastructures, killed off nearly all of humanity and enslaved the transportation workers. The prison systems–ready-made internment camps–became the labor pool for lunar exploitation.

As bleak as things were, Dr. Rupert Jones–Spaceman Second Class–bided his time in an underground bunker, as he prepared to counterstrike.
