Writing Prompt – Creative Copy Challenge #513

This is a writing prompt. Bet you can’t do it! Take the 10 random words below and crush writer’s block by creating a cohesive, creative short story! And remember: after (if) you finish entering your submission into the comment field, highlight your words and click the bold button to make them stand out and help you determine if you forgot any words. (If you’ve missed previous writing prompts, we BET YOU CAN’T do those, either.) NOTE: Our bolding plugin is gone, so you’ll have to put before and after each of your challenge words if you want them to stand out, but NOT REQUIRED THOUGH! Or, as cleverly done by a CCC-er you can CAPITALIZE the challenge words in your piece.

  1. Anklebuster says:

Thunder and lightning burst forth from the coal
When Santa bent over to curse the North Pole.

“Eat pellets you elves! Eat Comet and Vixen!
“To hell with you, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen!

“For as long as this house is covered with snow,
“May your stockings be stuffed with dead mistletoe!”

With coal flaming hot, the look in his eyes
Caused reindeer and elf to scrutinize

The truth about Yuletide, by Odin’s beard:
Not a carol was sung while boar was speared.

Mitch ~ Oh my goodness :[
This is ssssoooo not where I thought the list would take you. Santa curing the North Pole???

While you took the list in a different way, you have still intrigued me!

I hope this is not indicative of your mood, but if so, I hope your mood becomes better.

      Write On,

      Kathleen

Heh, not projecting at all, Kathleen. Just having fun and challenging myself to go off the beaten paths suggested by the words.

Years ago, my family helped me create a massive party game for Christmas Eve. It was based on the 12 Days of Christmas and I did a TON of research on the festivals, the songs and the origin stories.

From time to time, I trot that research out and repurpose it: Une Perdrix?

        Cheers,

        Mitch

        • KathleenMK says:

Mitch ~ I am glad it is a fun exercise only. It is fun to pull out the researched facts. You know I love to do it now and again too. The game sounds like too much fun!

          Write On,

          Kathleen

  2. No Carol, I’m not going caroling! The last time I ventured out to bring Yuletide tidings, the neighbors thought it was their job to scrutinize every note and share their findings with the entire HOA membership.

To show their “appreciation,” they gave me two stockings: the original one given to every homeowner passing by the gaudy display of Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen hanging by a thread from the chainlink fence; and one with a single lump of (thankfully, unlit) coal to represent the lack of inspiration my vocal renditions inspired.

Worst of all? When I stood under the mistletoe, old man Peterson, whose favorite day of the entire year is the one where that bit of greenery gets him a free kiss, looked at me sideways and pretended he was enamored of the apple cider punch!

No, no, no! From now on, my caroling is limited to that unplugged karaoke sitting in the basement gathering dust!

    • Anklebuster says:

Poor lady. She drank the kool-aid, thinking it was egg-nog.
I hope your holiday cheer was sweeter.

      Cheers,

      Mitch

    • KathleenMK says:

Vernessa ~ Welcome to the fold! It’s great to see a new face! I love your singing off key a bit here and the chuckles you brought to me with the description of the display the HOA had out and the lump of coal! Bravo.

      Write On,

      Kathleen

      • Hi KathleenMK,

Glad to see you’ve given CCC a home and picked up the moderating baton. I used to participate a few years back but you know how life does its thing.

Last night I was searching for some of my fav sites of old, and landed here (yay!). Inspired by your Christmas-y prompts, was happy to hear a line rattle ’round in my head so plopped it down for our mutual amusement. 🙂

        Happy New Year!

        • KathleenMK says:

          Hello Miss Vernessa!
To tell you the truth, I was wondering, when I saw your name pop up … “Haven’t I seen this name before?” And I am glad to see you have reassured I have not lost my mind, just yet.

And Shane has always given the CCC a home, I just felt that while Shane is busy his family of CCCers should not have to waste away! Add to that, I thought if I missed it, others might too. And wallah, here we are.

I sure am glad you re-found us. I look forward to reading more of the things that are rattlin’ around in your head.

May the reason for the season fill your heart and soul with so much joy that it spills over well into the New Year and flow out of the mind onto the keyboard and show up here :]

          Write On,

          Kathleen
