Writing Prompt – Creative Copy Challenge #538

This is a writing prompt. Bet you can’t do it! Take the 10 random words below and crush writer’s block by creating a cohesive, creative short story! And remember: after (if) you finish entering your submission into the comment field, highlight your words and click the bold button to make them stand out and help you determine if you forgot any words. (If you’ve missed previous writing prompts, we BET YOU CAN’T do those, either.) NOTE: Our bolding plugin is gone, so you’ll have to put before and after each of your challenge words if you want them to stand out, but NOT REQUIRED THOUGH! Or, as cleverly done by a CCC-er you can CAPITALIZE the challenge words in your piece.

  1. Mediocrity
  2. Bewildered
  3. Rivulet
  4. Trammels
  5. Pugnacious
  6. Cowering
  7. Bawling
  8. Blighting
  9. Highbrow
  10. Trident

  1. Anklebuster says:

Terminix and Laila got here at the same time, both late. I think I hear thunder.
I am a bit bewildered by Laila’s bawling, as not a rivulet of a tear mars her chocolate face. She doubles over in apparent agony and points to the muddy boot tracks leading from the vestibule. I watch in shock as the pugnacious exterminator deploys various rodent trammels right in the living room, practically in front of the television.

I beg the cowering maid to cease the blighting noise and to vacuum up the mud before it sets. Next, I yell at the exterminator to remove the highbrow traps and sprinkle some damned rat poison in the corners. I am aghast at the mediocrity of these overpaid servants and chomp down extra viciously on my Trident gum.

The rains come. I guess the newspaper will be wet, too. Sigh.

    For you, Pop!
