Writing Prompt – Creative Copy Challenge #553

This is a writing prompt. Bet you can’t do it! Take the 10 random words below and crush writer’s block by creating a cohesive, creative short story! And remember: after (if) you finish entering your submission into the comment field, highlight your words and click the bold button to make them stand out and help you determine if you forgot any words. (If you’ve missed previous writing prompts, we BET YOU CAN’T do those, either.) NOTE: Our bolding plugin is gone, so you’ll have to put before and after each of your challenge words if you want them to stand out, but NOT REQUIRED THOUGH! Or, as cleverly done by a CCC-er you can CAPITALIZE the challenge words in your piece.

  1. Accumulate
  2. Feeder
  3. Latch
  4. Handle
  5. Stick-shift
  6. Obvious
  7. Gruntled
  8. Hazard
  9. Reference
  10. Book

I looked up gruntled, after my pal, Joey, claimed that it was an obvious reference to happy pigs. The serendipity of his off-hand remark both startled and pleased me.

“Joey, you should write a book. You have a curiously apt handle on the English language that is just skewed enough to be hilarious.”

“Nah, man. I have a stick-shift on the English language that’s just stuck enough to be a hazard.”

See what I mean? If I could just latch on to Joey for six months, I could accumulate a thousand of these quirky gems.

Sadly, this went out the window when Joey accused me of being his feeder. I was mortified and tried to cover it up by saying that I was only encouraging him to beef up his writing chops. He snapped, “I rest my case.”
