I had a specialty.
I was the best at it.
I could twist it.
Shine it.
Center it.
Overpower it.
And drive it home.
But tonight something else besides my hand would hold my attention.
(quick freeflow – that had me chuckling even though it makes little sense.)
Part II:
Kala had held something special in her left paw, but she thinks it would be best if she could show the others she could live with it in peace. After the twist of events with her attacking Jamar, Kala runs deeper into the forest, feeling her paws sink into the damp soil. Grandmama shouts for her, yet she continues even without the moon shining upon the earth tonight. Remorse drives Kala through uncharted territories and right into the center of a pack. Holding the creatures’ attention, Kala halts, trembling because of the harsh cold piercing through her fur by the rain. She takes a step back after spotting the familiar matted hide on the creatures. One of the males of the pack steps toward Kala and roars.
“Begone, bear! We have settled it with your kind,” the lion commands. “This is our land, and you will leave at once!” Unable to react, Kala doesn’t budge from her spot, shivering. The lion slinks toward Kala and advances until Kala sees the white of his eyes. He bares his fangs. Until the lion hovers a mere foot away from Kala, she then tries to escape but scrapes her left paw away from her in the process. The sharpened metal claws pierce through the lion’s hide on his leg, causing him to fall back. He snarls, and the rest of his pack spring into action because of the bear’s aggression. Instead of fleeing, Kala then stares down at her left paw. Perhaps the tribe leader had been right. With this kind of power, what use is it if it only troubles any animal who sees it?
Uh-oh, an epitaph for Kala?
This was an intriguing mini-series. Nina Sharp meets Clan of the Cave Bear. LOL
