This is a writing prompt. Bet you can’t do it! Take the 10 random words below and crush writer’s block by creating a cohesive, creative short story! And remember: after (if) you finish entering your submission into the comment field, highlight your words and click the bold button to make them stand out and help you determine if you forgot any words. (If you’ve missed previous writing prompts, we BET YOU CAN’T do those, either.) NOTE: Our bolding plugin is gone, so you’ll have to put before and after each of your challenge words if you want them to stand out, but NOT REQUIRED THOUGH! Or, as cleverly done by a CCC-er you can CAPITALIZE the challenge words in your piece.

Some say I am going blindly into this. That I have not experienced an illumination in my heart. That my current life and situation was adequate. Yea like they have trademarked this. In reality they have been an obstruction in my life. I know it’s now necessary for me to follow my heart. I still remember it likening was yesterday seeing you at the appliance store talking about wattage and dryers. But I felt something in me. Something deep that we could connect on a deeper level. How random our conversation went. As I sit here waiting for you to have our first date I know we will not be disconnecting anytime soon as I found my other half.

Juan — Welcome to the Addition long-timers call the CCC!

I love the way you found to use the word list! I can’t wait to see how this continues. I love the hope you give at the end … I know we will not be disconnecting anytime soon as I found my other half.

      Write On,

      Kathleen

Welcome, Juan! You gave us a very nice slice-of-life. I can picture the possibilities!

      Cheers,

  2. Anklebuster says:

Under the bridge, Willie blindly groped for something—anything—to ward off his attacker. His fingers brushed against the old refrigerator that held his shoes and crossword puzzles. As he felt himself disconnecting from consciousness, he found the strength to flip the assailant over his back. Then, he blacked out.

The police officer’s smile had more wattage than the flashlight he kept flicking across Willie’s face.

Willie blinked and grunted, “Is that necessary?”

“What’s up, Wee Willie? Turning tricks, or just into kinky, auto-erotic stuff, now?”

“Huhn? What’re you talking about, Sarge?” The dim light was annoying him, even though the illumination was not adequate enough for Willie to see the death mask on the teenager crumpled against his rusty appliance.

The cop shone the beam on the body. An odd obstruction protruded from the kid’s mouth. His eyes bulged out, but not so much so that the mortal fear behind them was obscured.

“I didn’t do nothing! He attacked me!” Willie scrabbled backward on his haunches.

“Relax, man. I know you didn’t do this. That umbrella handle is the trademark of the ‘Rainman.’ You better come with me, though. No telling if he was protecting you or saving you for dessert.”
